His main areas are social theory, sociology of knowledge, management and bureaucracies, ethnicity, race and the political sociology of sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Previously held positions<\/strong><\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Editor of <a href=\"http:\/\/theory-and-criticism.vanleer.org.il\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">Theory &amp; Criticism<\/a> (2000-2010), an academic and intellectual journal which leads critical theory in Israel.<\/li>\n<li>Head of Advanced Studies at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanleer.org.il\/he\/people\/%D7%99%D7%94%D7%95%D7%93%D7%94-%D7%A9%D7%A0%D7%94%D7%91\" target=\"_blank\">Vanleer Jerusalem Institute<\/a> (2005-2010).<\/li>\n<li>Senior editor for Organization Studies (2004-2010).<\/li>\n<li>Editor of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanleer.org.il\/en\/content\/theory-and-criticism-context-series\" target=\"_blank\">Theory &amp; Criticism in Context<\/a> [Hebrew] which publishes original critical views on culture, society and knowledge in Israel (2003-to current).<\/li>\n<li>Head of <a href=\"http:\/\/spirit.tau.ac.il\/horowitz\/\" target=\"_blank\">Horowitz Institute for Social Research<\/a> (2003-2005).<\/li>\n<li>Chair of Sociology and Anthropology department at Tel Aviv University (1995-1998).<\/li>\n<li>Visiting Professor at: Stanford, Princeton, Columbia, Iowa, and Madison-Wisconsin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Main works<\/strong><\/span><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8212; His main work in the area of history of management was published in <strong><em>Manufacturing Rationality: The Engineering Foundations of the Managerial Revolution<\/em><\/strong> (Oxford University Press, 1999).<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; His main work in the area of nationalism, ethnicity and religion was published in <strong><em>The Arab Jews: A Postcolonial Reading of Nationalism, Ethnicity and Religion<\/em><\/strong> (Stanford University Press, 2006).<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; His views on the Israeli-Palestinian war are published in <strong><em>Beyond the Two States Solution: A Jewish Political Essay<\/em><\/strong> (Polity Press, 2012).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Teaching<\/strong><\/span>:<\/p>\n<p>Social theory, Society in Israel, Postcolonial Theory, Historical and Intellectual Origins of the Social Sciences, Sociology of Organizations, Sociology of Knowledge, Critical Theory.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Translations<\/strong><\/span>:<\/p>\n<p>Translates novels from Arabic to Hebrew. Among them: Elias Khouri (White Faces; The Journey of Little Ghandi), Salman Natour (She, Me and the Autoumn; The Life and death of the Wrinkled Face&#8217;s Sheikh), Abd Elrahman Munif, and others.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Political and Social Activities<\/strong><\/span>:<\/p>\n<p>Shenhav is a Jew of Arab origin (parents were born in Baghdad) and one of the founders of Ha\u2019Keshet Ha\u2019Demokratit Ha\u2019Mizrahit (Mizrahi Democratic Rainbow Coalition, 1996), a social and political movement founded by second generation Israeli Jews from Arab countries.<\/p>\n<p>He is also one of the founders of &#8220;Eretz Yoshveha&#8221; (A Country of its Inhabitants, 2010), an ex-parliamentary movement which calls for full citizenship and collective rights for all Jews and Palestinians in one shared space including redistribution of wealth.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yehouda Shenhav (Ph.D Stanford University 1985) is a Professor of Sociology at Tel-Aviv University.
